Character: Malik Caesar
Age: 40 (holy shit)
Canon: Tales of Graces f
Canon Point: Just after the Little Queen fight. (so basically, post-game.) His "strong emotion" in this case would be relief. Hooray, the world is saved!
Background: Wiki link
Personality: Malik is... wise. Okay, he's old. Not in a physical sense, mind you, but he's mature. He's generally the voice of reason, or at least the guy who teases you until you make the right decision yourself. He's almost always in teacher-mode, and imparts his wisdom whenever he can (either through strong words of encouragement or the occasionally deep word.) Basically, he's the kind of guy who's used to keeping kids out of the cookie jar so they won't ruin their appetite.
Given his pretty much cowardly retreat from Fendel, teaching became his purpose when he relocated in Barona. The guilt from what he did haunted him for twenty years-- and in that time, Malik's philosophy was essentially "if I can pass on some of my knowledge, then my life won't have been a waste."
A lost love can do that to a guy, unfortunately, and Malik has been shown to deal with loss, well... by running from it. He fled Fendel after things went south with Lorelia and the revolution, and was all but set to run from Kurt before he had a stern talking to from Hubert, the party's other voice of reason (albeit, the anal-retentive one.) He only started truly changing when his old friend left him his dying wish-- to save their country. Naturally, first they had to save the world.
However, Malik is also the kind of guy who would steal the cookies from the proverbial jar, eat them, and then laugh his smug face off, saying "What? I never said I couldn't eat them." I said he was mature, but that doesn't mean he can't choose not to be. He's a huge troll, and has the deadpan snark jokes down-pat. (If you're not careful, you might think he's being serious, and then you're in trouble.)
He always means well, though. When he lies to Sophie, for instance, it's always something ridiculous that could never be true-- he knows the rest of the party will fix that particular mix-up, but the laughs he gets in the meantime are well worth it. I mean, he started using a bladerang twenty years ago so he wouldn't have to teach swordsmanship, but tutor individually instead. After all, you can't get hands-on teaching with a class of fifty, but when it's one-on-one, then you know you're getting through. That's... the kind of guy he is. In control.
Malik also has a reputation for being a huge lady killer. Women just fall for him-- no matter the age. Maybe it's that mature air, or a certain manly musk... Well, that's another Tales game but you get the idea. He's actually known to have 'a woman waiting in every port' though it's clear they're never more than one-night stands. Not surprising, given that twenty years later he still wasn't over Lorelia. So... fidelity issues, much? Oh, Malik, what will we do with you...
Abilities: Full list of artes here. Malik is the party's high-damage mage. However unlike most magic-users, he has the highest HP (even more than Asbel, the team tank)... and the second-lowest defense. Since he's an instructor for the knight academy, it's somewhat implied that he can wield a sword and fight in close-range, but he prefers to toss his bladearang from afar most of the time.
Other: For the sake of simplicity, let's just say Malik left his Eleth Mixer at home because those things are kinda game breaking. He'll arrive with his clothes (armor) and bladearang which again, for simplicity's sake, will be his default-looking one but with adjusted stats, since I don't really feel like going super into specifics

Third Person Sample:(Based on one of the Test Drive prompts. Also taking a bit of a liberal take on the whole "the magic here becomes their magic" bit.)
Monsters, huh? Malik could certainly deal with those. Compared to Lambda and the Little Queen's minions, a few monsters would be a piece of cake. Sure, the magic here works a little differently than on Ephinea, but it didn't take long for Malik to get used to. Save a few instances, he's never had any trouble controlling his emotions before, so combining that with cryas artes should be a no brainer.
Malik is no stranger to filling out requests-- this might not be his home, but he isn't about to just stand by. He's quick to volunteer his services, and soon enough he's at one of those farms, being led to one of those mangy-looking creatures that's currently wreaking havok on their crops.
"Alright, leave it to me." Malik nods. He doesn't even pull his bladearang from his back, but instead takes a stance, focusing on a spell. Something small, like Cold Front would work-- enough to get the monster but not freeze the crops. All he has to do is draw out an emotion; think of his home, of Kurt and Lorelia and just like that-- a rain of ice bolts lands on his target, crushing the monster, and the surrounding produce, in a Glacial Rain.
The farmers are amazed-- if a bit nonplussed, judging by the 'did you just douse our crops with ice' look to their faces.
"Well. That should melt in a few... minutes, I'm sure." Malik laughs. Uh, overkill much? That wasn't exactly what he had in mind, but at least it's good to know? Old wounds might be a bit too strong for a spell like that. Besides, if anyone asks, he totally meant to do that.
Still...
"Let me just... actually, if you want to just dock this from my pay, go ahead."
Questions: none I don't think....
